Beautiful post Keith, I just love this. I have long gotten to a stage where there is nothing like shame and my Vitiligo, yes I get shy once once as human, but never cos of my Vitiligo atleast not anymore.
I really understand shame to a point, I got a gift of a book 'I thought It Was Just Me', beautiful book on shame. Glad I stopped by will look for “The Gifts of Imperfections”, I need to read it and possibly get for our proposed resource center.

Hey Buddy,

I have not tried anything like that. I have used sunless tanning creams but over the previous year I have stopped such things.

I just wear my skin as it is and try to be the healthiest person I can be. Maybe I will be able to regrow more pigment than I lose. I would love that. Though it may never happen. Who knows?

I don't want to wait for modern medicine. They inevitably come up with something expensive to fix me temporarily.

Being happy and healthy. Dont need modern medicine for that right?

Thanks for stopping by Roger.

Hey Steve,

Thanks for the affirmation. Its hard to face those things we are uncomfortable with. There is a liberation from ourselves when we stop thinking about ourselves. Its hard to do. And I still get stuck inside my head sometimes.

Fighting my way out the best I can.

Cheers and hope to hear from you soon.

Hey Deborah,

Really appreciate you coming by and leaving a comment. This site really is all about the comments. Hearing about other people and their struggles helps to we dont see ourselves as going it alone.

I do think you can accept yourself. I accept myself and the disorder. I dont like it but I do accept it. Its possible!

Thank you,
Keith

I am fourteen years old and I am the only person I know personally that has virtiligo. Its hard, really it is. My virtiligo started at the age of 11 and it didn't bother me.. Or anyone else.. I only had it on places that no one would see, and I was an awesomely confident person. But as I grew older the virtiligo began to spread and people started to notice. Some times they'd say nothing.. Just stare as if it were a contagious disease and others would comment and mock. My family doesn't at all take note of it.. But its terrible when they don't want to listen to me talk about it. I look at my friends and pictures in magazines and I see all the type of clothing and styles that I would never be able to do! I know it sounds petty but this is what goes on through a fourteen year girls mind.
Many times I feel suicidel and blame all my faliars on it. Its hard when u have no one to talk to. I've become an emotional wreck cause of it and I don't know what to do about it. I've let myself go and constantly I'm thinking, I don't deserve to be alive.
And typing this down.. It all seems stupid and petty and just completely insane... I just.. I just really want to be normal

Hey. So, I'm Hispanic && LOVE to have a tan. But over the summer I was tanning
A bit to much I guess && I started getting this on my arms. But it wasn't too serious.
But still noticeable && embarresing .. && a lot of people point it out at school. Im 12.
&& Spring is on its way. Back to short sleeve shirts. && I really don't want to have this
all over my arms. But I don't have enough money for a treatment.

This is brilliantly stated. I've been on the same journey the past few months. I totally get what you mean. If you face it, accept and say "I don't care who reacts to it however- I'm cool with it," You get liberated. You can grow and be on with your life.

Hey Keith!

Thanks for sharing your story! I usually feel the same way that you do about these weird treatments. Since so little is actually known about Vitiligo it can be tough to find the right treatments.

My personal approach is that I use something called Microskin that covers up vitiligo REALLY well. I figure that it's the perfect thing to use while modern medicine catches up and learns more about vitiligo.

How about you? Have you ever tried using anything like this?

I was having a white patch on my right eye side since past four months.I am using a homeopathy cream Ammi Visnaga since two months. The 80% patch area has been covered with bit black marks(hypermelanan) .
But another patch at my right chin (the place where the jaw bone ends) which was only a faded sketch two months back ,became visible developed..
Then I went for allopathy medicine treatment. There they took some blood tests and then confirmed the case as Virtiligo. They refered a cream Tacrolimus and a sunscreen Suncros and asked me to undergo phototherapy with two times a week.
The doctor is saying that the sitting will recover the patch in three months.
However by going through your comments I am quite in doubt wheather to start the phottherapy i.e.PUV B exposure to be continued for three months.
Please help me and suggest honestly wheather I should undergo Phototherapy or NOT.
Please help.
